Fernland began on Kalapuya Ilihi, the homeland of the Kalapuya people who today are represented by the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians. Fernland’s offerings are online and on Wapato Island, the homeland of the Multnomah people. We respect the stewards of this land — past, present, and future — and the knowledge of those who came before us. We honor the Black and Brown labor on which this country is built and sustained. We offer gratitude for the land, waters, and the opportunity to learn, love and be in relationship with our ancestors, spirits, and mentors guiding our work.

Mission

To offer Black, Indigenous, and all people of color opportunities to sustain their relationship with the land through art, education, and spiritual wellness.

Vision

To help people process environmental-related trauma, provide a space to express ourselves through art, support non-hierarchical mentorship networks, and foster collective liberation in the Pacific Northwest.

Values

Care for ourselves, more-than-humans, and the land; sustaining a collective centered on uplifting each other; honoring people’s ideas, creativity, and ancestry.

Fernland Studios is fiscally sponsored by Ophelia’s Place. We’re grateful for support from the Kalliopeia Foundation, Seeding Justice, Social Justice Fund Northwest, and individual donors to offer programming. We’re honored to partner with Loam, Sofia Baum Consulting, Resonance Institute LLC, rotating creators and cultivators of color to bring this work to life.
